Can't install pocketsphix (with pip install pocketsphix)

I'm trying to create a speech to text Python program which uses pocketsphix voice recognition, and I'm getting an error when trying to install it. I googled and searched for the solution but couldn't find one that works so I'm posting here.

Here is the error:

C:\Users\david>pip install pocketsphinx

Hopefully somebody alredy encountered this problem and knows the fix. Thank you in advance.

Tried installing pocketsphinx, expected a clean install with no problems.

TL;DR this is fixed in PocketSphinx 5.0.3, now on PyPI.

This is because PocketSphinx required an older version of setuptools which no longer worked with Python 3.12. The reason for doing this was, in turn, because scikit-build could not support the new standard for editable installs used by recent setuptools (https://peps.python.org/pep-0660/)

The problem was fixed by switching to scikit-build-core, which I highly recommend to anyone currently using scikit-build.
