Time series, feat_stl returns error, no change since yesterday when it worked fine

30 views Asked by At

I'm building a time series model in R, using the FPP package (Forecasting Principles and Practices, 3rd edition). The book is available online and I'm working on time series features, as described here:

https://otexts.com/fpp3/stlfeatures.html

This is what the data looks like:

# A tsibble: 10 x 5 [1Q]
# Key: Region, State, Purpose [1]
   Quarter Region State Purpose Trips
     <qtr> <chr> <chr> <chr> <dbl>
 1 1998 Q1 Adelaide South Australia Business 135.
 2 1998 Q2 Adelaide South Australia Business 110.
 3 1998 Q3 Adelaide South Australia Business 166.
 4 1998 Q4 Adelaide South Australia Business 127.
 5 1999 Q1 Adelaide South Australia Business 137.
 6 1999 Q2 Adelaide South Australia Business 200.
 7 1999 Q3 Adelaide South Australia Business 169.
 8 1999 Q4 Adelaide South Australia Business 134.
 9 2000 Q1 Adelaide South Australia Business 154.
10 2000 Q2 Adelaide South Australia Business 169.

The code in the book states:

library(fpp3)
tourism |>
  features(Trips, feat_stl)

However, this returns an error:

Error in `lapply()`:
! Can't convert `X[[i]]`, a double vector, to a function.
Run `rlang::last_trace()` to see where the error occurred.

I get the same error no matter which time series is used.

All the packages are up to date, so is RStudio. Any help getting this to work would be appreciated.

EDIT – adding package information here, as I could not get it to fit in an edit:

(EDIT - I restarted my computers and it ran with no issues on both systems. Not sure why this worked, but the issue is resolved)

I am testing this on two systems, restarted each of them, and everything ran fine, no issues. Problem solved, no further issues.
